Backend Upgrade
Backend Hardware Upgrade!

We have been busy here at Kivernoll Weather Station, and upgraded the main and backup host computers that collate and store the weather data..

In time for the station's second anniversary, the Weather Station now runs on a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB SBC, and features:

>>Memory now LPDDR4X v LPDDR4 and doubled in size from 4GB to 8GB.

>>PCIE 2.0 NVME.

>>CPU Quad-core Cortex-A76 at 2.4Ghx v A72 at 1.5Ghz, now three times faster than previous model.

>>256GB PCIe Gen-3 SSD IOPS (4KB random): 40k IOPS5 (4KB random write): 70k.

>>All housed in a Pironman5 enclosure with passive and active cooling.

>>All UPS protected with runtime of 28 hours.

>>All data regularly backed up to NAS RAID 6 array.

>>The core software running the system has been upgraded to Linux 6.12.25+rpt, with WeeWx updraded from 4.10.1 to 5.1.0 as the weather processing overlay.

Whilst you probably won't notice a big change using the website, as this is hosted in a UK datacentre, the processing, computations, and storage of data onsite have undergone a massive upgrade, to futureproof the system for the next 10 years.

New sensors being added this week - stay tuned for updates

Enjoy!
